Tour route: Birth place of Aphrodite, Lofou Village, Millomeris Waterfall, Winery(Platres Village), Omodos Village.
The Birthplace of Aphrodite is one of the most beautiful beaches near the city of Pafos, where locals can enjoy swimming with their families. In the water one can see the enormous rock where legend says Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, was born from the ocean.
Lofou is 26 kilometers northwest of Limassol in the “ampelochoria” between Limassol and Paphos. The community is named for its hilltop location amid mountains. The Greek word “lofos”—meaning “hill”—inspired Lofou. The village was once called “Lofos” in the early 20th century. Simos Menandros (1970) suggests that the village’s renaming from “Lofos” to “Lofou” was due to a change in local farmers’ vernacular. Morphological changes made “Lofou” feminine. The village is commonly known as “Lofou.” No historical evidence exists to determine when “Lofou” was founded. The Bronze Age must have occupied the area. The village’s old pots can confirm this.
The Millomeris Waterfalls are located in the southeastern area of Platres and, together with the Calidonia Waterfalls, they form a duo that has made the area a popular destination among nature enthusiasts.
The flow of water which comes from Krios Potamos has made the surrounding area cool and wet, thus lending itself to the name Millomeris. The water from the falls cascades from a height of 15 meters, creating a small lake, the level of which rises and sometimes overflows during the winter months, when the volume of water increases significantly.
Omodos is located about 42 kilometres north-west of the city of Limassol, in the geographical region of the wine-making villages. It is built near the west bank of the Cha-potami river at an average altitude of 810 meters. The village is surrounded by tall mountaintops, the tallest of which are “Afames” (1153 m.) and “Kremmos of Laona” (Laona’s Steep, 1092 m.).
